Redesigning the Retribution Paladin in World of Warcraft
Just three days after the release of Patch 10.0.5, which had several new additions to the game, World of Warcraft revealed that the Retribution specialization of the Paladin class would be getting an overhaul in a future patch.
The Retribution Paladin specialization has been a source of debate in terms of its viability within the Melee DPS role in World of Warcraft. Although it has strong burst damage capabilities and utility, it has some weak aspects. Although the release of Dragonflight has improved the specialization, it is still lacking in personal buffs, sustainability, and mobility compared to other melee DPS specializations. Despite these shortcomings, Retribution Paladin is still recognized as a B-tier DPS for Raids and Mythic+ Dungeons due to its powerful burst damage capabilities and utility spells like Retribution Aura and Hammer of Justice.
Blizzard recently declared on the World of Warcraft forums that Retribution Paladins will be receiving updates in Patch 10.0.7, which should arrive at the Public Test Realm (PTR) in a few days. They are intending to reduce the number of buttons Paladins have to press across all specializations, as well as make adjustments to certain Retribution Paladin talents to enhance their utility kit and personal damage. Moreover, buffs to Retribution’s survivability through passive traits and cooldowns are planned to match the identity of a plate armor class.
Paladins seeking greater movement capabilities should not expect the same level of speed as Rogues, according to Blizzard. It is unclear whether this means a shorter cooldown for Divine Steed or something else. Blizzard said they will be taking into account the feedback from the Retribution rework and other class changes once the PTR goes live soon. Along with these adjustments, Patch 10.0.7 will add more to World of Warcraft, including Heritage Armor sets for both Orcs and Humans.

Blizzard has done their best to inform players of the upcoming class modifications, but it is yet to be decided if these changes will be enough to get World of Warcraft back on track after its difficult last few years. Those who want to have a say in the Retribution Paladin restructuring should join the PTR when it is accessible and give helpful input.
The PC version of World of Warcraft is now available.
