Ashika Map in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Includes Subterranean Waterway

As the initial installment of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is coming to a close, Infinity Ward has begun to reveal several specifics of the core Ashika map, focusing on a concealed waterway underneath it. The second season of the acclaimed game series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2, is bringing back the sought-after Resurgence game mode, where Ashika will be the prime hub for all the activity.

When Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was released alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in November 2022, it sparked a degree of hesitation from fans. As Infinity Ward gave Warzone 2 their focus, Resurgence and the small-scale maps, like Rebirth Island, Fortune’s Keep, and Caldera were retired. Although Warzone 2 has become hugely successful, some players still yearn for the close-quarter, nerve-wracking firefights of the past. DMZ, the PvEvP game mode designed to replace Resurgence, has gained a loyal following but does not quite fill the gap left by Resurgence and Plunder.

Ashika Map in Call of Duty- Warzone 2

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 unveiled the Ashika map today following a period of teasing. According to the Tac-map, it was found that the island consists of seven separate regions with unique designs and layouts. One screenshot showed something particularly interesting; a canal with a network of bridges and pathways. Examining the Tac-map further, many entry and exit points along the coastline were discovered, suggesting that the canal goes throughout the island.

With limited information on Ashika Island, players have been scouring through screenshots and teasers to uncover its secrets. It is likely that aside from the coastlines, there are other ways to get to the caves below Ashika Island. Despite its smaller size when viewed from the sky, the addition of an underground waterway makes Ashika Island potentially the third-largest map in Warzone, after Al Mazrah and Verdansk.

Activision has been gauging player interest with a survey about legacy maps for Warzone 2, which could indicate the introduction of Resurgence and Ashika Island is only the start. Plunder and Payload modes might find their way back into the game and Verdansk could be remodeled for Warzone 2. In the meantime, Call of Duty gamers will be able to enjoy Ashika Island in February when Season 2 of Warzone 2 kicks off.

The sequel to Call of Duty: Warzone has been released and is now playable on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
