Developer of Witcher 1 Remake Reveals New Role-Playing Game with Supernatural Elements

Fool’s Theory, the developer of the Witcher 1 remake, is collaborating with 11 bit studios on a new supernatural role-playing game called The Thaumaturge. Both companies have extensive AAA experience; Fool’s Theory has been involved with Baldur’s Gate 3 and Outriders, while 11 bit studios created This War of Mine and Frostpunk.

In the past three decades, Poland has seen the emergence of many talented individuals in the gaming industry, with one of the most notable successes being CD Projekt Red. The developer created the Witcher trilogy and, while the first two titles got a positive reception, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt propelled them to the top of the AAA studio rankings. Subsequently, some of the devs moved on to found their own companies, to create a wider variety of games. Both Fool’s Theory and 11 bit studios boast members of the former CDPR team, who are creating new and exciting titles. Now, Fool’s Theory is in the process of porting Witcher 1 to Unreal Engine 5, while in 2019 they and 11 bit studios also announced Project Vitriol. Recently, fans got to see a teaser of this game.

The rebranded game The Thaumaturge is a story-driven RPG with morally ambiguous choices set in Warsaw, Poland in 1905. The developers did extensive research to ensure the game’s accuracy and authenticity. Additionally, players will be able to control Salutors, creatures that are a mix of spirits and demons, capable of mind control and powerful combat abilities. As is often the case with powerful creatures, the use of Salutors will come with consequences.

The Thaumaturge offers a vivid world where decisions make a difference and players can shape the protagonist as they choose. Dealing with Salutors will provide a distinctive range of talents, whether amid physical confrontations or not. Turn-based combat will be part of the game, combining the Thaumaturge’s physical attacks with the Salutor’s psychic powers. There is little known regarding the story right now, but the teaser trailer does a great job of creating a captivating atmosphere.

The Thaumaturge appears to be a favorite amongst the passionate RPG crowd. There has been a lot of hype generated on diverse platforms by the gaming community, who are eagerly awaiting further details about the game.
