Possibility of an Extended Delayed Release for Suicide Squad Video Game Might Be A Reality
Originally planned to come out on May 26, it appears that the video game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League may not be revealed until next year. Deriving from the Batman: Arkham series of action-adventure titles, Suicide Squad may be pushed back further than earlier assumed.
It was back in 2010 when fans of Suicide Squad had first started hoping for a video game, when Geoff Johns, the then-COO of DC Comics revealed that one was in the works. This project, however, had been put on hold by 2016. Finally, in late 2020, Rocksteady Studios made an announcement that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was in development.
It was initially reported that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was going to be released on May 26, but now it looks like it has been pushed back to the second half of 2023, according to Jeff Grubb’s podcast Game Mess Decides. Grubb said, “I don’t want to cause a panic, but I heard it’s not even coming this year. I’m hearing 2024.”
Grubb acknowledged the difficulty in verifying the news but was confident in the source. If it is true, then the latest delay for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would be longer than anticipated. This would undoubtedly be disheartening for those who have been eagerly anticipating the game for over a decade.
Although there may be disappointment among fans, a delay in the launch date may not be a bad thing. After Sony’s State of Play broadcast exposed their DLC plans which were met with intense criticism, the extra time could be beneficial to the game’s mechanics and provide an opportunity to reconsider any of the more contentious aspects.
It has been a while since news of the Suicide Squad video game was released and although some have been critical of the production, there is still a lot of anticipation for it. This is the last opportunity fans will have to hear the late Kevin Conroy’s voice as Batman before his passing, so whether or not Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League gets pushed back to 2024, fans will still have to be patient for its release.
Development is in progress for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to be released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X.
