Star Wars: Temuera Morrison Interested in Captain Rex Spinoff
Temuera Morrison is eager to move on from portraying Boba Fett, Jango Fett, and each Clone Trooper in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He is aiming for something more sophisticated and rougher. If the actor from New Zealand gets his wish, a Captain Rex spinoff could be a possibility at some point in the future.
Despite Temuera Morrison’s portrayal of clones of Jango Fett in the Star Wars films, Dee Bradley Baker was the one to lend his voice to the character when they moved to animation for the series The Clone Wars and others. A notable clone to appear in the series was Captain Rex, who managed to go against the orders of Order 66 and use his own judgement. Furthermore, the aged version of Rex still voiced by Baker made an appearance in Star Wars Rebels. But due to the lack of a live-action version, Morrison sees this as a potential chance.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Ranking the 15 Most Notable Story Arcs
As outlined in this article, here we rank the fifteen most memorable story arcs from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
At the Supanova Comic-Con in Melbourne, Morrison shared his idea in an interview with Dexerto. He expressed his wish to do something with his character, Captain Rex, in the Star Wars universe. “Just to play one of the clones,” he said when asked about other stories he would like to help with. Morrison has already appeared in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett as Boba Fett. Yet, something about the clones keeps him interested and willing to return.
Morrison reminisced about his experience playing a decrepit Clone Trooper in Obi-Wan, jesting about needing to receive credit for it. He then voiced that he would be interested in another role similar to that, but it is up to the decision makers. The future of the Star Wars clones was left grim after The Clone Wars, which presents a great opportunity to tell their stories with Morrison’s contribution. Even though The Bad Batch was an exploration of the clones’ lives, a live-action adaptation of it is yet to be made.
Speculation has arisen concerning the potential return of Captain Rex to the Ahsoka series, due to the strong bond between the two characters in The Clone Wars. Having Morrison in the role of an experienced veteran on screen would be a highly desired addition. However, there has been no indication that he has been cast yet, and such news usually finds its way out. Therefore, even though it would be great to see him, it would be wise not to rely on it.
It wouldn’t be the first time Star Wars has kept something a complete secret. Morrison’s appearance as Boba Fett in The Mandalorian season 2 was not expected by many. Not to mention, Jack Black and Lizzo’s unexpected roles in the series. It is possible that Morrison already portrayed Rex in some concealed manner, leading to his fondness for the character. This is something Star Wars loves to explore–there is always hope.
