Pre-Purchases of Skull and Bones Getting Automatically Reimbursed
Ubisoft is automatically refunding some customers for Skull and Bones, the upcoming swashbuckling escapade. The game was first declared in 2017 and was initially thought of as a multiplayer title with similar naval battle mechanics to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and has grown since then into a game that has been compared to Sea of Thieves.
Skull and Bones has been postponed multiple times, most recently being postponed from its March 9th, 2023 launch to a yet unspecified date in the time span of April 2023 to March 2024. This recent delay is the sixth time the game has been pushed back, due to continual modifications in the direction and range of the project. The latest Skull and Bones delay also saw Ubisoft cancelling three unannounced games, while reassuring fans that Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora were still in the making, in addition to another undisclosed title.
People who had pre-ordered Skull and Bones for the PlayStation Store have apparently had their purchases automatically refunded. Although it is no longer possible to pre-order the game on Sony’s platform, it is still available for wishlisting. Those who bought the game on other networks have not been affected so far, even though it has been delisted from Steam in the past. As 2023 is seen as a crucial time for Ubisoft, with the company having a number of financial issues, the automatic refunding of Skull and Bones is a bit concerning.
It appears that the game is no longer purchasable from the PlayStation store and Sony has refunded me the $100 for the deluxe edition without my asking or even being informed. Have any other people experienced this? Is this maybe due to an uncertain release date?
Players who had been looking forward to Skull and Bones this past March are starting to feel anxious due to the numerous delays, but many try to remain optimistic that the wait will result in a better game. All that can be done is to hope the delay has allowed Ubisoft enough time to refine the game and please its fan base when it is eventually released.
It appears that refunds for Skull and Bones pre-orders are being made on Sony’s platform, but this does not appear to be a sign of more poor news for the game. The refund is likely due to the game’s release date being changed to an unspecified time. It has only been two weeks since the most recent delay was declared by Ubisoft, which was a result of the company’s financial issues causing Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, to make some regrettable comments. Hopefully Ubisoft is making the necessary decisions to recover and get through the current hard times.
Work is currently in progress for the release of Skull and Bones on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
