Player of Hogwarts Legacy Finds Historical Inconsistency in the Video Game
It has been found that Hogwarts Legacy contains a small discrepancy with its history. As it is now in its Early Access stage, more and more details like this are being revealed. Hogwarts Legacy players have stumbled upon this minor mistake.
Reaching the point of release has been a challenge for Avalanche Software, especially with J.K. Rowling’s series of transphobic statements sparking a lot of controversy online. So much so that the Hogwarts Legacy subreddit had to ban discussion about the author. Fans have been vocal about their opinions of the situation, with some choosing to not purchase the game in protest. The developer has taken steps to distance itself from Rowling, however many people still feel that the Harry Potter name is enough to make them not buy the game while she still profits, either directly or indirectly.
The Reddit post highlighted an error in the in-game globe of Hogwarts Legacy; the island of Prince Charles is shown to have been discovered and mapped in the game, although it hadn’t been found in reality until 1948. Now that the game is out, fans are noticing all the small details such as the Gryffindor common room, which appears to have received special attention from the developers.
A fan in the comments of a post suggested that the island hadn’t been “discovered and mapped by muggles”, which could’ve been part of Avalanche Studios’ intentions. If wizards are able to fly around the planet, it’s likely that they could’ve found Prince Charles Island before anyone else. While this may have been an oversight on the developer’s side, leading up to the game’s release, many fans had their own theories, with one in particular speculating about Merlin’s involvement in Hogwarts Legacy. Now that the game is out, fans can determine which of these theories were accurate.
The much-awaited release of Hogwarts Legacy has brought a sigh of relief to devoted fans of the franchise, as reviews have been positive. The Harry Potter series had not seen a good video game in a long time, with the last title released over two decades ago for the original PlayStation. With the hiatus of the Fantastic Beasts films, the series is in need of a hit. Early reports suggest that Avalanche Software has created an ideal setting for the game to be successful, providing fans with an immersive Wizarding World experience. If this game ends up being a success, there could potentially be a Hogwarts Legacy sequel in the near future.
On February 10th, Hogwarts Legacy will be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S systems. It will arrive on PS4 and Xbox One consoles on April 4, and the Nintendo Switch edition will be released on July 25.
