Players are being put at a disadvantage when playing Overwatch 2 due to the Medusa Event Skin, which has been released recently

It appears not to be a widespread problem, yet some gamers report the noise level in a game is so loud that most won’t be able to hear the hiss of the snakes. This could be plausible as Overwatch battles are seldom quiet, with character voices and gunfire taking over. This does not eliminate the initial issue, however, that players cannot hear the opponents’ steps when the snakes hiss. The bigger question is why the Blizzard personnel believed it would be beneficial to have the snakes hiss. Apart from the tactical setback, the sound created is quite irritating. So far, there has been no official response from Blizzard on this topic, so we must just wait to see if a resolution is in the works.

Overwatch 2's Medusa Event Skin

Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus celebration is ongoing until January 19, but some players are discovering that the event’s cosmetics are costing them kills. This event, centered around Greek mythology, endows select heroes with divine abilities and exclusive cosmetics. The controversy revolves around the Medusa skin for Widowmaker, which is only available in the premium currency store, requiring players to spend nearly twenty dollars for the item. Social media user Kephrii highlighted the issue by uploading a clip of the skin, which reveals that the snakes in the headpiece produce a very loud hissing sound.

This sound is global, meaning both teams can hear it, and it makes it difficult for Widowmaker to communicate enemy positions while also compromising their position. Consequently, many have branded the skin as “pay to lose” because it provides no advantages. Others argue that the sound in a match is so loud that the snakes are inaudible, though this doesn’t address the problem of players not being able to hear enemy footsteps. It remains to be seen if Blizzard will address this issue and make changes to the sound files, but for now, there is no official statement from the company.
