Overwatch 2’s Antarctic Peninsula Map Gives Gamers the Ability to ‘Fish’
Activision Blizzard has declared that a fishing feature will be available in the Antarctic Peninsula map when Overwatch 2 Season 3 releases. This is something that has not been included in the original Overwatch, but is reminiscent of the past fishing mechanics used in other titles from the company, such as World of Warcraft.
For the upcoming Overwatch 2 Season 3, Activision Blizzard has provided a sneak peek of the Antarctic Peninsula map, which features a unique form of fishing. This marks the second map addition since the release of the game and could potentially draw in lapsed players interested in seeing the new location. The first map was an Escort mission set in the Shambali Monastery.
Recently, the Overwatch Twitter account shared a video that showcased Soldier 76 on the Antarctic Peninsula map from the upcoming Season 3 update. As the clip ran, text was edited in, saying: “and if you’d rather be fishing.” In the video, Soldier 76 begins to shoot a hole in the ice, and a fish jumps out and starts flopping around before suddenly disappearing. Some other fish were shot out of the hole too. When the pre-release gameplay shifted to Tracer, an Overwatch 2 hero, the situation quickly became chaotic due to her rapid-fire weapons.
When switching to Tracer in Overwatch 2, the gunfire seemed to draw a multitude of fish out of the Antarctic Peninsula ice sheet as the hero expended both of the weapon’s clips in the water. The fish that jumped out of the water may be correlated to the amount of bullets fired, with one creature appearing as a result of each shot. As each Overwatch 2 character has their distinct attacks, these could potentially create different consequences from the Antarctic Peninsula fishing hole, leading to humorous reactions from the aquatic life.
It appears that the Overwatch 2 clip takes place in a spawn room, so, probably, fishing in this area won’t interfere with the gameplay if it is done during the set-up phase. The video only showed one fishing spot in the Overwatch 2 Antarctic Peninsula, so it is still not clear how many spots will offer players the chance to hone their aim in such a unique manner.
Players can now experience Overwatch 2 on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One and Series X/S.
