Enhancing Mobility on Ice with the Latest Minecraft Java Update

An avid Minecraft player has come up with an unconventional way to traverse the extensive levels in Mojang’s popular game. They shared a video of themselves on an iceboat, traveling up an incline in the pre-release version of Minecraft Java 1.19.4. While the Bedrock edition is the more popular among console and mobile users, as it is more stable and compatible with different platforms, the Java edition is the original version of the game and remains a favorite among PC gamers.

Since its launch as a humble, indie PC title by Mojang Studios in 2009, Minecraft has become a fixture in pop culture over the last decade. Not only is the core game available on almost any device that plays games, but there has also been a multitude of spin-offs from Minecraft, like the Diablo-esque Minecraft Dungeons and the Minecraft: Builders and Biomes board game. Mojang has kept the franchise appealing to long-time players by introducing regular crossovers with other popular franchises, the most recent of which was the surprise release of a Minecraft and Mega Man X crossover, as shown in a trailer.

In a post on the r/Minecraft subreddit, user SquareFinder shared a video of a unique use of the ice boating mechanic in Minecraft Java 1.19.4. The short video shows a character standing in front of an ice track that gradually rises before getting into a boat and riding up the incline. This is something that has never been seen before, and for the whole video. Ice boat tracks in the game are usually used for transportation, but the ability to travel up the hill in this version is entirely novel.

Visitors to the Minecraft subreddit were quite impressed with how the ice boat mechanic had been utilized, with one comment specifically noting its potential for quickly and easily transporting villagers. In response to the boat’s remarkable uphill agility, another person quipped “my minecarts are getting owned”, spurring a conversation among the commenters about how Mojang could improve upon the iconic carts. Sadly, those seeking to construct an impressive ice track uphill were disappointed to learn that the irregular ice boat behavior had already been addressed and resolved on Mojang’s bug-tracking site, it was announced that it would be fixed in the next build.

The video gives us a peek at the imaginative ways that players would have employed the unforeseen feature, had it not been quickly rectified. Although ice boating is undoubtedly thrilling, it wouldn’t be as practical as constructing an extensive roadway system in Minecraft.

You can play Minecraft on several platforms, including Mobile, PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
