Gameplay Footage of Hogwarts Legacy VR Mod Surfaces
Lovers of Harry Potter have been waiting for an immersive experience like Hogwarts Legacy for some time, and the Virtual Reality version of the game will make that dream come true. Coming out on February 10th, the game has already acquired a huge fan base on all platforms, and the amount of players is expected to increase once the exclusive pre-launch period is over. It is now the biggest launch on Steam for WB Games, more popular than LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
The success of Hogwarts Legacy can be attributed to the fact that fans of Harry Potter have been longing for an expansive open-world game set in the Wizarding World. This action role-playing game allows players to create their own witch or wizard who will attend Hogwarts. Every part of the experience, from the Sorting Ceremony to buying a wand at Ollivanders, is tailored to the individual. Many have enjoyed exploring the eponymous castle in the game, and for the people at Flat2VR, adding VR to the mix is an obvious choice.
Flat2VR has yet to announce a launch date for the Hogwarts Legacy VR mod, however, they have presented a 10-minute video to highlight its features. The mod will permit players to explore Hogwarts Legacy in either first-person or third-person mode, and this functionality is set to remain for all cutscenes.
The game Hogwarts Legacy was met with a great deal of popularity on Twitch, yet it has also been the center of many controversies. Fans have experienced difficulty reconciling J.K. Rowling’s transphobic views with the role-playing game created by Avalanche. One of the game’s developers has even decided not to purchase the game. Although it seems unlikely that the boycott will have a significant effect on the commercial success of Hogwarts Legacy, it has caused many to reevaluate their relationship with the Wizarding World and the Harry Potter books. The widening gap between Rowling and her readers has been made apparent.
Despite the various controversies that have surrounded the Harry Potter intellectual property, Avalanche Studios have been praised for their creation of a welcoming and well-crafted open-world adventure that will bring pleasure to fans of the franchise (and even those who merely desire a role-playing game where they can cast spells). An unofficial VR mode is in the works, and the modding community for Hogwarts Legacy is beginning to grow, and the game may appear quite different a year from now.
Hogwarts Legacy is set to come out on February 10th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will be available starting April 4th for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the Switch version being released on July 25th.
