Hippogriff Displayed in Hogwarts Legacy
Today, the developer of the highly-anticipated Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy , released a video featuring a Hippogriff, asking viewers if they will be able to gain its trust. This is one of several videos that have been posted in the leadup to the game’s launch date. Hogwarts Legacy videos have been made available by the developer as the game’s release date draws near.
At the PS5 event in 2020, Hogwarts Legacy was officially announced, even though it had been leaked months earlier. There were several delays in the game’s release date before it was finally set for February. Despite the issues that have been raised with the game, the developer and publisher are still aggressively marketing it.
In the past four weeks, the creators of the game have been unveiling promotional videos for the forthcoming title. Among them was a Hogwarts Legacy clip of dragons in a clash and another of the lead character swimming. Most recently, they released a video that highlighted the Hippogriff. It showed the beast standing in a meadow with a description of the animal underneath. The caption asked the players if they would be able to win its admiration.
The first mention of Hippogriffs in the Harry Potter series was in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with Buckbeak playing a key part in one of the book’s main plotlines. Buckbeak had allegedly injured Draco Malfoy, resulting in its death sentence. Just last year, it was reported that a Hippogriff would feature in Hogwarts Legacy, but its exact role in the game is yet to be determined.
Since its announcement, Hogwarts Legacy has been surrounded by a number of controversies. Lead Developer Troy Leavitt departed the game’s production after it was revealed that he had priorly been in support of Gamergate. Additionally, the title’s Goblin antagonist has caused a stir among some, as the Goblin characters have been seen as anti-semitic. This was further complicated with the recent transphobic comments made by J.K. Rowling. Despite the developer’s attempt to distance itself from Rowling’s statements, the situation remains a heated one for those closely following the game. Whether or not Hogwarts Legacy will manage to succeed in spite of these issues remains to be seen, although at present it appears that the Hippogriff will factor into the player’s adventure in the Wizarding World.
The game Hogwarts Legacy will be released on February 10th, 2021 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It will follow on April 4th, 2021 for PS4 and Xbox One, and then July 25th, 2021 for Nintendo Switch.
