Third Week in a Row Sees Hogwarts Legacy Lead the Market

For the third consecutive week, the Harry Potter themed game Hogwarts Legacy has topped the physical game sales charts in the United Kingdom, according to recent estimates. The considerable success of Avalanche Software’s RPG appears to be a reoccurring theme, with reports from numerous locations indicating that the title has been leading the pack in sales.

The birthplace of Harry Potter showed its devotion to the Wizarding World in the opening week of Hogwarts Legacy, with the game shattering a 22-year-old sales record and surpassing the first-week physical sales of other well-known titles, such as Elden Ring. Additionally, it became the most-viewed single-player title ever on Twitch and the largest Steam launch in WB Games’ history; from what can be gathered, Valve’s platform earned the publisher around $200 million in the ten days after the game’s release.

For the third week in succession, Hogwarts Legacy has held its place at the top of physical sales in the UK, as revealed by GfK data on GamesIndustry.biz. This is especially noteworthy because the Harry Potter game has been competing against four newly-released titles, the most well-known one being Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe which entered the top ten at number three. The other newcomers are Octopath Traveler 2, Atomic Heart, and Like A Dragon: Ishin, which placed sixth to eighth respectively in the measurement period.

The UK physical game sales chart was recently topped off by FIFA 23, which was situated between Hogwarts Legacy and the upcoming Kirby game, while the top five was rounded out by God of War Ragnarok and the evergreen Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The bottom of the weekly list was filled out by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Minecraft: Switch Edition which settled in ninth and tenth places, respectively.

The potential of the UK video game market is well known to WB Games, as it is estimated to be the sixth-largest market in the world, with nearly 40 million players and $5.5 billion in annual spending. Additionally, Hogwarts Legacy was reported to have topped the physical sales charts in Japan and South Korea, two countries that outspend the UK in gaming by a factor of five, in its launch week.

Reports about Harry Potter RPG (Hogwarts Legacy) have been very positive, showing that the game has done particularly well in Oceania, Taiwan and other regions. It has been placed at the top of the sales charts in Oceania and has also been a major force in physical game sales in Taiwan.

Players can now enjoy Hogwarts Legacy on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will be available on April 4, with a Switch version released on July 25.
