Hailee Steinfeld Talks About Kate Bishop’s Possible Return to the MCU in Hawkeye

When asked about her role as Kate Bishop in the MCU, Hailee Steinfeld remained elusive but did comment on Jeremy Renner’s snow-related injury that happened earlier in the year.

The introduction of Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop as a protégé of Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton in Hawkeye saw the young archer help Barton defeat the gangsters who had mistaken him for his alter-ego, Ronin. This had many fans speculating that Bishop would take over the mantle of Hawkeye, as she does in the comics, however, the series ended with Barton keeping the title and the potential of Bishop’s next appearance in the MCU yet to be announced.

At CinemaCon, Steinfeld was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight while promoting Gwen Stacy’s appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Steinfeld was asked about the potential relationship between Kate Bishop and Gwen Stacy if they met onscreen. When asked about when fans could expect to see Kate Bishop again, Steinfeld gave a mischievous smile and said “Maybe”.

At the start of the year, Renner was critically hurt in a snow plow accident. Steinfeld told ET that Renner is making a “miraculous” recovery, and the actress compared their relationship to the bond between Hawkeye and Kate Bishop. “I’m so pleased that he’s alright, and more than alright,” she said. “He’s an amazing fighter.”

It is uncertain if Steinfeld was being elusive or just has no idea about Kate Bishop’s next MCU appearance. Fans expect Bishop to be part of a Young Avengers project as many Disney Plus shows have featured characters from the comic books. However, Ant-Man 3 producer Stephen Broussard has stated there are no plans for a Young Avengers project, so viewers must keep speculating about Bishop’s eventual return.

Disney Plus now offers Hawkeye for streaming.
