Shadowkeep Has Brought New Weapons to Destiny 2 Lightfall

Bungie has declared that for the upcoming Lightfall DLC for Destiny 2, they are going to recycle the base weapon geometry from the Shadowkeep expansion. Although Destiny has continually employed this strategy of taking old assets and repurposing them for subsequent content releases, the yearly expansions for the second game do not usually do this.

The debate concerning sunsetting and reissuing older weapons in the Destiny 2 fanbase has been ongoing for a long time. Some gamers don’t mind having a chance to acquire updated versions of their beloved weapons, while others would much rather Bungie concentrate solely on new equipment. As the Lightfall DLC approaches, it seems these discussions will be reignited.

The recently released Destiny 2 Lightfall Exotics trailer had eagle-eyed fans recognizing some familiar-looking weapons in the promotional materials. After the trailer was released, Bungie updated the expansion pack’s page with high-quality renders and screenshots, one of which highlighted the weapons, though some fans may not agree that they are “new.”

The Lightfall weaponry, which includes a sniper, fusion rifle, pulse rifle, handcannon and heavy grenade launcher, are based on the reissued Shadowkeep gear from Destiny 2. The key contrast between the two collections of armaments is that the Shadowkeep items have various trinkets, amulets, and dried fruit that Eris Morn added to keep away the Darkness Nightmares. Meanwhile, the Lightfall items are well-polished, corresponding to the neon visuals of Neomuna.

It is impossible to overlook the potential of this idea. While the Golden Age of humanity remains one of the most mysterious aspects of Destiny 2, it is clear that pre-Collapse technology was much more advanced than what the Vanguard currently has. As Neomuna was created with Golden Age tech and Eris Morn scavenged the Golden Age facilities on Luna, it is possible that the same weapons from these locations may be shared between the two.

This new Destiny 2 DLC, Lightfall, is bound to create great changes to the game, however, some players may view the Lightfall gear as a repeat of old content with a flashy new look. Whether or not Bungie’s approach to Lightfall weaponry will be successful is yet to be determined.

The video game Destiny 2 can now be played on PC, Playstation 4 and 5, as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
